The homeowners had a railroad tie-wall about 20 years old that was failing and needed to be replaced. Because of the steep slope of the back yard, we decided to build a double tier Rockwood Retaining wall with Colonial Gold/Black blocks. The retaining walls were engineered to structurally retain the hillside, as well as, create landscape beds for the homeowners to plant new shrubs. Due to the fact that the homeowners would be looking at the retaining walls from the sunroom, we decided to use the Colonial block system, which creates the randomly patterned, hand–crafted look of an expensive multi-piece retaining wall at very affordable cost.
